Sonography
Sonography, also known as ultrasound, is a medical imaging technique that uses high-frequency sound waves to create real-time images of internal body structures. It is commonly used to monitor fetal development during pregnancy, assess organs such as the liver and kidneys, and guide medical procedures like biopsies and injections. Unlike X-rays or CT scans, ultrasound does not involve ionizing radiation, making it a safer option for patients, including pregnant women. The procedure is generally painless, non-invasive, and typically performed by trained professionals known as sonographers.
